Women’s Rights Are Human Rights
Women’s rights are human rights. They are not optional, secondary, or negotiable. They are essential for creating a just and equitable society where every individual — regardless of gender — has the opportunity to thrive.
At the heart of the NFH Foundation’s mission is the unwavering belief that empowering women means empowering families, communities, and nations. In 2025, this mission is brought to life through our Women Empowerment Event Series, with one clear message: the fight for women’s rights is far from over.
“We cannot talk about justice without centering the rights of women and girls,” said Blessing N., a human rights advocate and NFH event speaker. “From the classroom to the courtroom, from the home to the halls of power — women’s voices must be heard, protected, and respected.”
What Are Women’s Rights?
Women’s rights encompass a wide range of civil, political, economic, and social freedoms that every woman is entitled to. These include:
-
The Right to Education
-
The Right to live free from Violence and Abuse
-
The Right to Vote and Participate in Governance
-
The Right to Own Property and Earn a Living
-
The Right to Reproductive Health and Autonomy
-
The Right to Equal Pay for Equal Work
These are not privileges — they are rights. Yet, in many communities across the country, these rights are still denied or suppressed, especially for marginalized women and girls.
Stories That Inspire Change
NFH Foundation believes in the power of storytelling to ignite action. At each regional event, human interest stories are shared — stories of women who overcame forced marriage, escaped domestic abuse, fought for education, or built successful businesses against the odds.
One such story is that of Mariam, a young woman from the West region who defied cultural pressure to leave school. With support from a local NFH mentor, she not only graduated but now leads an advocacy club for girls’ rights.
Building a Rights-Based Movement
Through school-based programs, church partnerships, legal clinics, and leadership boot camps, NFH is working to embed women’s rights education in the fabric of every region we serve. It’s not enough to raise awareness — we’re equipping women with legal knowledge, leadership skills, and community support.
Looking Ahead
As we move through 2025, the Foundation remains committed to advancing policies that protect women’s rights and challenging systems that perpetuate inequality.
“The future is female — but only if we fight for it,” said Foundation Director Temi Abegunde. “And NFH Foundation is here to lead that fight — with compassion, with courage, and with community.”
Because women’s rights are not a dream. They are a demand. And they are long overdue.
